8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (Phil. 4:8 NIV)
When I saw today’s prompt, this verse was the first thing that popped into my mind. And the song, “Lord, I Lift Your Name.” What I really want to discuss today is the last part of the verse – think about such things. My questions is this, “What do you think or dwell on?” For me, my mind goes 100 miles a minute covering a large variety of topics, problems, and dreams. These range from finding solutions to human problems that relate to what I see around me to religion/theology to examining my own beliefs and attitudes.
So let’s take a look at what we are supposed to think about. All of these things – truth, noble causes, morally right, clean/divine, beautiful/ascetically pleasing, something worthy of admiration (achievement), excellence, extraordinary, things, places, and people who deserve praise. All of the above is a personal determination of relevance to an individual. Everyone is unique and each one of us have our own interpretation for what we find praiseworthy. One person may be more interested in humanity causes, and another may be more interested in environmental issues. Whatever you pet causes, think on them, praise them, be involved with them.
